Current Duel Past Duels Special Competitions Rules Tutorials Links
Rules of Battle
1. Each month will have a theme. Songs submitted must fit within that theme and must have been written for a video game.

2. Competitors must submit one song in mp3 format, being at least two minutes in length. This song must be either new or previously unreleased. The song itself must be two minutes or longer; silence does not count towards song length.

3. The main instrument MUST be played, not programmed. Programmed backing tracks are allowed. If the main instrument is a keyboard, you may not quantize it.

4. All entries must be submitted to dodsongs@gmail.com (or sent via another acceptable method; see the FAQ) with the following information clearly identified:
- Artist name
- Name of the game(s) your source material is from
- Song title
***Please note that any particularly unseemly language (for example, a racial slur) in any of these categories may be censored or result in rejection of your song.

5. To keep voting as unbiased as possible, all entries will be anonymous until the results are posted. This means you can't let anyone know you did the song. This doesn't just mean you can't publicly annouce that you did the song, but other things as well; see the FAQ for more explanation.

6. Songs are judged on the Minibosses message board, all votes being tallied on the last day of the month at 9:00 PM Eastern US time, and the results and challenge of the next month being revealed afterwards (the exact amount of time depends on the number of songs; assume at least an hour).

7. Songs are due upon the due date listed in the Current Contest link by 9:00 PM Eastern US time. Send either a PM to Paragon at the Minibosses Message Board or mail them to dodsongs at gmail dot com (for further explanation, see the FAQ)

8. Joke or "alternate" entries, featuring a main instrument that is played, are allowed but cannot be voted for. They must be 30 seconds or more and must fit the month's theme as well. As they will not be voted for, they may be left tagged with the artist's name or any name, or retagged anonymously, depending on the artist's preference. They will be sectioned off from the main entries to distinguish which are which. Licensed songs may be allowed as alternate entries at our discretion.

9. Artists who have submitted and/or people with 50 or greater posts on the Minibosses Message Board may vote on the songs each month. The number of points a person gets to distribute among the songs is equal to the number of main entries, rounded up to the nearest multiple of 5. If the voter posts 3+ sentence reviews of each main entry in the relevant DoD thread, they get extra points to use (the normal number of points divided by 5). Voting is optional, and if you choose to vote you may not use a larger or smaller number of points than you are given (excluding the points for reviewing). Artists may vote for themselves with no special rules or restrictions applying to them, including artists who collaborate on an entry.
